Adventurists NewsRollocking good time had by all at our Summer Festival

15:21 on Tue 8th Jun 2010

Adventurists travelled from all 23 corners of the Land of Eng this weekend to play croquet, imbibe vodka and enjoy the fulsome fruits of The Adventurists Summer Festival. We promised sunshine, we promised fair maidens in giant yurts, we promised croquet in the Welsh mountains: and by jove was it all of this and more.

As the sun beat down on the sylvan surrounds of the Glanusk Estate the festival kicked off in style with a fearsome tournament of croquet. This wasn't any old croquet game, for not only was the freshly-mowed pitch overlooking the glorious peaks of the Brecon Beacons, but the prize was a free place on the 2011 Mongol Rally. Buddy, looking sartorial in a white linen suit, whipped the players into a frenzy of competitiveness and after several hard games Norberto Arborim, hailing from Brazil, emerged triumphant. Norberto was duly presented with a winning prize of a case of Windhoek lager...and was not seen upright again.

The games were made somewhat longer by Buddy cajoling the players into using 'assasination rules' which resulted in much of the game being spent sending rival's balls hurtling off pitch. At one point there was even a participating Labrador, clearly in training for the shooting season. After snow croquet in Colorado and mountain croquet in Wales the standard is now set for The Adventurists' Extreme Croquet series. Next stop, the Sahara.

Croquet was swiftly followed by Welsh skiffle legends Railroad Bill, who played two stomping sets and were utterly superb. We can't wait to have them back again....

As the sun set over the hills Disco Shed then took to the floor. Some people seemed surprised that Disco Shed was actually a shed, albeit a modified one. But my was this a mighty shed, and my did they pump out some rocking tunes well into the depths of night. While the Wacky Races team in the yurt poured Agwa  - Bolivian coca leaf liqueur - down people's throats, and the Chinggis tent plied folk with Mongolian vodka, Disco Shed hammered out the tunes and many hands were waved in the air. Several people were complaining of sore buttocks the next morning due to an excess of wild dancing: just how it should be.

So all in all a humdinger of a party was had by all. Catch us if you Khan said they 'had a fantastic time, well worth the 18 hour round trip'. Others commented that 'Railroad Bill and Disco Shed were top notch' and that they had had a 'cracking weekend'.

Thanks for coming everyone and we hope to see you again next year.
